The Enchanted Realm of Jericó: A Journey Beyond the Ordinary

Jericó a Masterpiece

The Enchanted Realm of Jericó: A Journey Beyond the Ordinary

In such a magical place, its natural walls make its sunrises and sunsets not the only attraction between the mountains. That which makes Jericó distinct is something that surpasses it, putting it on the map as a place to be explored in great detail.

It is located 150 km from the wettest place on the planet and crosses one of the most important rivers in the country, the Cauca. This river brings to its crops from the south of the country numerous flavor notes and shelters a representative percentage of the existing species, thanks to its great diversity of climates.

At that height, between 600 and 2500 meters above sea level, there are many species of iguanas, monkeys, sloths, owls, opossums, otters, and a diverse variety of other colorful birds. A great waterfall such as El Salto de los Monos, Los Chorros de Quebradona, and La Cascada Arcoíris, including Río Piedras, has started outlining, with all that water wealth, turned into art in that special place.

On another note, the town is beautiful in itself, but once you start making your way through its nature, one can understand why this mix of climates, the uniqueness of its hills, and the fertility kept all of its lands, also has every species feeling at home, which chose it as part of their territory.

With its neighboring towns of Pueblorrico, Tarso, Támesis, Venecia, and Fredonia, there is much more to see in a full year.

Jericó reclines, sitting atop the western Andes mountain range, where the landscape opens, giving way to one of the most fertile valleys in that mountainous area. Citrus, cardamom, cocoa, and coffee are many of the richest crops of vegetables in this beautiful place, permeated with the fragrance of the land. Because the Andes were formed by volcanoes, the vegetation formed on volcanic monoliths, and that is why the vegetation we see adds another touch of the diversity of the region.

Our pride and privilege lay in the fact that all the above-mentioned players, tourists or townspeople, were actually joining hands together. They are producers of food and restaurant owners coming together to serve the biodiversity and richness right from the hands of these tourists and townspeople at our table. It is through that hand that everything is done better and more sustainably.

Conservation is a central theme in Jericó, with the place often debating whether it is advisable to allow mining after more than 16 years. Many prefer such an option, pretending that if established with customs and respect for the ecosystems, it is always laudable that the value posed for the ecosystems be above the monetary aspect.

The treasures of Jericó can be discovered naturally on horseback, by bicycle, aboard an ATV, on a chiva, or simply on foot.
